# MakeMyTrip Clone Business Model: Earn on the Whole Trip, Through Every Channel

A single-category booking business earns once per trip, on a margin a supplier sets the ceiling on. A travel platform earns on the flight, the hotel, the transfer, the insurance and the visa fee, and then earns again when an agent sells the same inventory or a company pays a plan to book it. Six revenue streams ship here, and every one of them is a setting in your admin panel rather than a number a vendor fixed for you.

        The Model

## Why One Margin on One Category Is a Thin Business

Travel is a low-margin trade per booking and a high-value trade per customer, and the model has to follow the second half of that sentence.

On any single booking, a travel business earns the gap between the supplier rate and the price the traveler accepts, and that gap is narrow because the traveler can compare it in seconds. What makes the category worth building in is not the margin on a flight. It is that the same traveler books several trips a year across several products, and every trip needs more than one of them. A flight comes with a hotel, a transfer, an activity and often insurance or a visa. Earn on each of those and the value of a trip multiplies without the headline fare moving at all.

The second multiplier is channels. Plenty of travel is still sold through local agents and company travel desks, and neither buys from a consumer app. An agent portal that pays commission and a corporate portal that enforces policy turn those buyers into bookings on your inventory, carrying your margin, without you acquiring each end customer yourself. That is why this build ships six streams across three channels rather than one markup on one checkout.

Every stream is set from the admin panel and changes without a new release, so your model can follow a season, a competitor or a supplier rate change on the same day.

        The Streams

## Six Revenue Streams, Every One Set by You

All six ship. Which you switch on, and at what rate, is yours.

### Booking margins per category

A margin on top of the supplier rate for each of the eight categories, as a percentage, a flat fee or both, with a minimum per booking. Flights, where the traveler compares hardest, can carry a slim flat fee while holiday packages and activities carry a healthier percentage, which is where most of the per-trip value hides.

### Travel agent commission

Agents sell your inventory to their own clients and earn a commission you set, calculated on every booking and settled monthly, with a default of 5% and an agent wallet with a credit limit. You grow distribution without paying to acquire each of those travelers, and the margin on the booking is still yours.

### Vendor commission

Hotels, homestay hosts and activity suppliers who list directly through the vendor extranet pay you a commission on every booking they receive. Listed inventory usually earns more per booking than a thin wholesale margin, and it is inventory your competitors on the same wholesaler do not have.

### Visa, forex and insurance fees

Service fees on travel services sold inside the same checkout as the trip. The traveler has already committed to the journey, so these add revenue to a booking that is already won rather than requiring a new sale, and they matter most on international trips where the base margin is narrowest.

### Corporate travel plans

Starter, Business and Enterprise plans sold to companies that manage employee travel, with policies, approvals and expense claims included. The plan fee is recurring revenue that does not depend on booking volume, and the margin on every trip those employees book comes on top of it.

### Payment fees and wallet float

A fee per payment method recovers gateway costs, while wallet top-ups, cashback, refunds held in the wallet and unused gift card value sit on your platform. Wallet payments avoid gateway fees entirely, which quietly widens the margin on every booking a returning traveler pays that way.

Miracuves takes no percentage of any stream and nothing is charged per booking, per agent, per vendor or per company account.

## How Travel Businesses Actually Earn

The shapes that recur, and what each one genuinely requires before it produces anything.

| Approach | What it needs first | Where it breaks |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Flight margins | An approved flight supplier account | Travelers compare fares in seconds, so the margin is always thin |
| Hotel and holiday margins | A wholesaler, or hotels listing directly | Needs photographs, itineraries and trust before it converts |
| Agent commission | Agents willing to move off their current tool | Fails if settlement is slow or opaque |
| Vendor commission | Hotels willing to manage their own rates | Stale availability without a channel manager |
| Corporate plans | A company that already manages travel spend | A long sales cycle and approval requirements up front |
| Ancillary fees | A trip already booked | Resented if they appear only at the last step |

The first row is where most travel startups begin and the worst place to stay. A business that only sells flights competes on the one number every traveler can compare instantly, and the rest of this page is about not being that business.

        Sequence

## Monetization Ranked by What You Already Have

Travel businesses start from very different places, and the right first stream follows from where you are.

| What you already have | What earns first | Why it works at this point |
| --- | --- | --- |
| An existing traveler audience | Margins on hotels and holidays | The customer is already yours, so the per-trip value is the lever |
| Relationships with local agents | Agent commission | Distribution arrives without acquiring each traveler yourself |
| Hotels and hosts who trust you | Vendor commission via the extranet | Listed inventory carries a better margin than wholesale |
| Company clients booking by email | Corporate plans plus trip margins | Recurring revenue that does not depend on booking volume |
| International or outbound travelers | Visa, forex and insurance fees | Adds revenue to trips where the base margin is narrowest |
| Repeat travelers returning | Wallet float and payment fees | Wallet payments skip gateway fees on every return booking |

A travel agency moving online and a new consumer OTA should switch on different streams first on the same platform. That is the point of every stream being a setting rather than a fixed part of the build.

        The Alternative

## What Selling Through a National Booking App Costs

Six costs of listing your trips, hotels or packages on somebody else's platform. None of them appear on an invoice.

**A commission on every booking**The national app takes its cut of every trip, on a margin already thin after the supplier, and it compounds with every booking you make. It is the cost that grows exactly as the business succeeds.
**The customer belongs to them**The traveler's history, preferences and contact details stay with the app. You earn the booking and lose the relationship, which means paying to reach the same traveler again for the next trip.
**Loyalty points in someone else's wallet**Cashback, points and wallet balances earned on your trips accumulate in their program, giving the traveler a reason to book the next trip with them, possibly with a competitor of yours listed on the same page.
**No agent or corporate channel of your own**Agents and companies who could book your inventory directly go through somebody else's tools, on somebody else's terms, and the relationship with them is not one you can build or keep.
**Your margins set by their pricing**Ranking, discounts and price displays are their decisions. When a platform decides to compete on fares, the margin it gives up is often yours, and there is no settings page where you can say no.
**No ancillary revenue**Insurance, visa and forex sold on a trip you supplied earn the app's fee rather than yours. The most profitable part of an international trip is exactly the part that never reaches you.

Owning the platform reverses all six: the customer, the wallet, the loyalty program, the partner channels, the margins and the ancillary fees stay with the business that earned them.

        Priority

## Which Lever to Switch On First

A launch order for a new OTA with a small audience, no agents yet and a first corporate client in conversation.

| Stage | Turn on | Leave off |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Launch week | Hotels, holidays and flights with per-category margins | Every category at once if supplier accounts are still pending |
| Weeks two to six | Wallet, cashback and the first loyalty tiers | Deep discounts that train travelers to wait for sales |
| First international bookings | Visa, forex and insurance fees | Hiding the fee until the final checkout step |
| A handful of agents signed | The agent portal with commission and settlements | Credit limits larger than you can recover |
| Hotels asking to list | The vendor extranet with commission | Listing hotels whose availability nobody will maintain |
| A company ready to commit | A corporate plan with policies and approvals | Discounting the plan fee to win the first account |

Row four carries the biggest risk. An agent wallet with a credit limit is real exposure, so set limits you can actually collect on before your network grows, not after.

        Operators

## Three Ways Operators Run This Platform

The same deployment leading with a different channel, not three different builds.

          A

### The regional leisure OTA

A regional brand selling flights, hotels, buses, trains and holiday packages under its own name. Margins set per category carry the model, loyalty tiers and wallet cashback bring travelers back, and visa, forex and insurance add a service fee to international trips.

- Eight categories to sell from one brand
- Holidays and activities carrying the healthier margins
- Wallet payments cutting gateway fees on return bookings

          B

### The agent network

A consolidator onboarding local travel agents who book for their own clients on the platform. Commission is calculated on every booking, agents draw on a wallet with a credit limit, and monthly settlements replace manual reconciliation, so the network grows without more back-office staff.

- A 5% default commission, adjustable per agent
- Distribution without owning more inventory
- Credit limits sized to what you can collect

          C

### The corporate travel desk

A travel management company signing companies onto Starter, Business or Enterprise plans, with travel policies, manager and finance approvals and automatic expense claims, earning both the plan fee and the margin on every booking the employees make.

- Three plan tiers of recurring revenue
- Policies and approvals the client's finance team wants
- Enterprise workflows scoped for the largest accounts

These are illustrative operator shapes rather than forecasts or observed results. Actual results depend on your market, your supplier rates, your marketing and your execution.

        Mistakes

## Common Travel Platform Mistakes

### Five that are expensive to undo

**Leading with flights alone.** Flights are the category travelers compare hardest and margins are thinnest. A business that only sells flights competes on the one number every traveler can check in seconds; hotels, holidays and activities are where per-trip value sits.

**Waiting on suppliers to start.** Supplier approvals take their own time. Start them on day zero, launch the categories you can sell, and list your own hotels, homestays and packages directly while the rest are pending.

**Giving agents credit you cannot collect.** An agent wallet with a credit limit is money outstanding. Networks that grow fast on generous limits discover their real exposure at the first month-end that does not settle.

**Surprising travelers with fees.** Service fees on visa, forex, insurance or payment methods are legitimate revenue. Revealed only at the final step, they read as a trick and cost you the whole booking.

**Discounting to buy loyalty.** Deep discounts teach travelers to wait for the next sale. The wallet, cashback and five tiers exist so you reward repeat behaviour rather than paying for every booking twice.

The first two are raised on day zero, because both are decided before a single booking is taken and both shape every revenue stream after them.

        FAQ

## Frequently Asked Questions

How does a MakeMyTrip clone make money?
In six ways, all set from the admin panel. A margin on the supplier rate for each travel category, as a percentage, a flat fee or both, with a minimum per booking. Commission paid to travel agents who sell your inventory, and commission paid to you by hotels, hosts and activity suppliers who list directly. Service fees on visa, forex and insurance. Starter, Business and Enterprise corporate travel plans. And payment method fees, wallet balances and unused gift card value.

Which category carries the best margin?
Generally not flights. Flight fares are the easiest thing for a traveler to compare, so the margin you can hold there is slim, and many operators set a small flat fee rather than a percentage. Holiday packages, activities and directly listed hotels usually carry more, because they are harder to compare like for like and the traveler is buying an experience rather than a seat. Because each category has its own margin setting, you can price each one to its own market rather than applying one markup everywhere.

How do agent commissions and settlements work?
You set a default commission, 5% out of the box, and can adjust it per agent. Commission is calculated on every booking an agent makes for a client and shows in their portal immediately. Agents draw on an agent wallet with a credit limit you set, and settlements run monthly, approved by your finance login, so neither side reconciles anything by hand. Set credit limits carefully: they are real money outstanding until settlement.

            What do corporate plans include?
Companies on Starter, Business or Enterprise plans get the corporate portal: travel policies with spend limits and class rules, bookings above the limit routed through manager and finance approval, expense claims generated after each trip and spend visible by department. You set the plan prices. The plan fee is recurring and does not depend on how much the company travels, and your margin on every booking its employees make comes on top.

Why does the wallet matter commercially?
For three reasons. Refunds and cashback returned to the wallet stay on your platform rather than going back to a card, so the next booking is more likely to be with you. Wallet payments avoid gateway fees, which widens the margin on every return booking paid that way. And prepaid balances and unused gift card value sit with your business. Combined with five loyalty tiers, it is what turns a one-off booking into a traveler who comes back.

Does Miracuves take a share of bookings?
No. The price is $3,999 once, and nothing is charged per booking, per agent, per vendor or per corporate account. We are not a party to any trip, we cannot see your margins, and we take nothing from settlements or wallet balances. Your ongoing costs are your own hosting and the supplier, payment and messaging accounts you choose, which are listed on the Development Cost page.
