In short

Miracuves builds custom Drupal sites, modules and headless JSON:API backends for organizations with many editors, strict permissions and multilingual or multisite content, and moves Drupal 7 sites to current Drupal. A custom Drupal build takes 2-8 weeks; when one of our 90+ catalogue platforms fits instead, it goes live in 6 working days on its own stack. Drupal is self-hosted, so you own 100% of the source code.

Our Drupal Approach

How Miracuves delivers Drupal apps - from 9,000+ projects of real experience

Over 9,000+ projects and 3,900+ published apps, Miracuves has settled on a fixed way of building with Drupal. A custom Drupal project starts from the written baseline in the engineering note on this page - a Composer-managed codebase, configuration exported to YAML, contributed modules checked for security coverage - never from a site clicked together in production. When one of our 90+ catalogue platforms fits instead, it arrives with payments, login and its admin already wired in, on its own stack rather than Drupal.

Drupal's module system carries enterprise websites, intranets, member portals and multilingual content hubs on one PHP codebase built on Symfony components. With multisite, several sites share that codebase and its updates while each keeps its own database and configuration, so a group of brands or departments is upgraded from one place instead of site by site. The full source code is yours on handoff.

Who this service is built for: Universities, public bodies, publishers, membership organizations and companies running several brands or languages - teams with many editors, approval steps and content reused across sites and apps. Miracuves Drupal development fits when you need custom modules, a Drupal 7 site moved to current Drupal, or a headless Drupal backend feeding a React or mobile front end, built by one accountable company rather than individual contractors. If your site is a few dozen pages run by one marketer, we will say so upfront and recommend WordPress instead.

  • Drupal Core with Symfony framework: enterprise-grade security, proven scalability, multilingual out of the box
  • Custom module development using Drupal's Plugin API and hooks: predictable behaviour, extensible architecture
  • Twig theme engine with component-based design: fully responsive, accessible, and browser-compatible across devices
  • CI/CD pipeline on every project: tests, configuration import and database updates run by the pipeline on Acquia, Pantheon or your own cloud
  • Hosting and infrastructure fully managed: Acquia Cloud, Pantheon, or custom Varnish/Nginx stack with Redis cache

From our Drupal team - engineering standard
Each Drupal build we take on starts from one written baseline: which custom module owns which entities and services is agreed before the first commit, configuration changes reach production only as reviewed YAML exports, API keys and database credentials sit in settings files outside Git, and the site is load-tested with its production caching on before handover. The scope, the stack and every integration are written down before any payment.

Honest noteNone of the six platforms above runs on Drupal: each arrives in 6 working days on the stack it was built with, web app, admin panel and mobile apps included. Drupal work - custom modules, a content hub, a Drupal 7 migration or a headless backend - is custom and takes 2-8 weeks. We tell you which fits before any commitment.

Technology Comparison

Drupal vs WordPress vs Contentful - which is right for your project?

Agencies that only build on one CMS rarely answer this straight. Miracuves builds on Drupal, WordPress and headless platforms, so the choice below follows your editors, your content and who will run the servers - the things that set a CMS's cost for years after launch.

Many editors need different permissions and an approval workflow · content is published in several languages or across several sites · the same content feeds a website, apps and partners through JSON:API · you want to own and host the code yourself.

Consider an alternative if…

The site is small and one marketer runs it (WordPress) · your JavaScript developers want a headless CMS they extend in code (Strapi) · you would rather rent a managed content platform than run servers (Contentful) · what you actually need is a phone app, not a CMS. See React Native →

Drupal guide

What to know before you hire a Drupal development company

The questions buyers ask us before a Drupal project, answered for Drupal specifically: what custom work covers, what the end of Drupal 7 means, when another CMS fits better, and what a site costs to build and run.

What does custom Drupal development cover?

Custom Drupal work starts where site building stops. Site building is configuration - content types and fields, taxonomies, Views for listings, menus and roles - exported to YAML so it moves between environments through Git. Custom development is the code around it:

  • Custom modules: services, event subscribers, hooks, plugins and forms for rules no contributed module covers.
  • Editorial workflows: Content Moderation states such as draft, in review and published, with a permission for each transition.
  • Multilingual sites: interface, content and configuration translation, all in Drupal core.
  • Headless or decoupled Drupal: content served through JSON:API in core, or GraphQL from a contributed module, to a React, Next.js or mobile front end.
  • A component-based Twig theme, and integrations with SSO, CRM, search and payment systems.

Drupal 7 has reached end of life - what should you do?

Drupal 7 stopped receiving community support in January 2025: no more security releases from the Drupal Security Team, and many of its contributed modules were abandoned well before that. A Drupal 7 site still runs, but each newly found vulnerability stays open unless someone patches it privately. Paid extended support can buy time; it does not give the site a future.

Moving to current Drupal is a rebuild of the code with a migration of the content, not an in-place upgrade. Drupal's Migrate API carries content, users, taxonomy terms, files and URL aliases across; the theme is rebuilt in Twig; each Drupal 7 module is replaced by its modern version, by a core feature or by custom code. We audit the old site first, run the migration repeatedly against a copy until the counts match, and map redirects so search rankings follow the old URLs.

Drupal, WordPress, Strapi or Contentful - which should you choose?

Choose Drupal when the content itself is complex: many editors with different permissions, approval steps, several languages or sites, and content reused across web and apps. Drupal handles all of that in core, and because it is self-hosted you own the code and the data outright.

Pick something lighter when the job is lighter. A marketing site run by one or two people is cheaper to build and run on WordPress. A team of JavaScript developers who want a headless CMS they extend in code will move faster with Strapi. If you would rather not run servers at all, Contentful is a managed content platform billed by plan. We give the recommendation in writing before any payment.

Can Drupal work with BigCommerce, Shopify or another commerce platform?

Yes, in two ways. Drupal Commerce keeps the store inside Drupal, which suits catalogues that are mostly content - publications, memberships, event tickets. When a hosted commerce platform already runs the catalogue, cart and checkout, Drupal stays the content and experience layer and talks to the store through its APIs and webhooks.

When a Drupal and commerce integration misbehaves, the cause is usually one of these:

  • A product changed in the store while Drupal still serves a cached page, because the webhook handler does not invalidate the right cache tags.
  • Webhooks that never arrive - the endpoint sits behind a login or firewall rule - or that fail without writing a log entry.
  • Both systems treating themselves as the owner of product data, so edits are overwritten in one direction.
  • API rate limits hit by a full resync that should have been queued and batched.
  • Checkout redirects and cookies that break when the store and the Drupal site live on different domains.

What does a Drupal site cost to run after launch?

Hosting, updates and people. Hosting ranges from a server you manage - Nginx, PHP-FPM, MySQL or MariaDB, Redis, often Varnish and Solr - to a managed Drupal platform such as Acquia or Pantheon, which adds ready-made environments and workflows for a higher monthly fee.

Updates are not optional. The Drupal Security Team publishes advisories for core and for contributed modules covered by its policy, usually on Wednesdays, and each should be applied through Composer, tested and deployed within days. Minor core releases arrive through the year and a new major version roughly every two years. That is why we keep the contributed module list short and security-covered, and why a Miracuves retainer, from $2,299/month, pairs maintenance with feature work.

How much does custom Drupal development cost, and how long does it take?

At Miracuves, custom Drupal work starts from $3,699, depending on the work - a module, an integration or a clean-up of an inherited site. A full custom Drupal build typically costs $10,000-$35,000 and takes 2-8 weeks; larger scopes, such as a Drupal 7 migration spanning several sites, are quoted in writing before work starts.

What moves the figure: how many content types and editorial roles, the approval workflow, languages and sites, how much content must be migrated and cleaned, integrations such as SSO, CRM, search or commerce, and whether a separate headless front end is part of it. If one of our catalogue platforms matches your idea, it has a fixed price and ships in 6 working days, but it runs on its own stack, not Drupal.

Freelancer, in-house team or a Drupal development company?

A freelancer suits a contained task on a healthy site. An in-house Drupal team makes sense once the site changes every week and is core to the business. A company fits work that needs several skills at once - a site builder, a PHP module developer, a themer, QA and someone who owns the deployment.

Whoever you hire, ask the same questions. Is configuration exported and versioned, or clicked into production? Which contributed modules will they rely on, and are those covered by security advisories? Who applies security releases, and how fast? Who owns the hosting account and the repository? At Miracuves the answers go into the written scope, the NDA is signed before details are shared, and the IP is assigned to you at project start.

Technical Architecture

How Miracuves engineers structure Drupal projects for production

These are the decisions our Drupal engineers make on every build - the ones that decide whether a site takes security releases and new features calmly for years, or turns into a codebase nobody dares to update.

  • 01

    Architecture - Clean, Feature-First Modules

Strict separation: Presentation → Domain → Data. Every custom module owns its entities, services, Twig templates and configuration independently, and talks to other modules through services and events rather than shared globals. This is how a new feature module is added without breaking the ones already live.

  • 02

Structure - Modules with Clear Boundaries

Business rules live in services with injected dependencies, not in .module files or theme preprocess functions, so each one can be covered by a kernel test on its own. The problem we inherit most often from other agencies is the opposite: logic spread across hooks, templates and configuration where no test can reach it. On a Miracuves project that separation is a hard rule from the first commit, not a suggestion.

  • 03

Performance - Cache Contexts and Render Strategy

Drupal is fast when caching is designed and slow when it is assumed. We declare cache contexts and tags per render array so invalidation is precise rather than global, keep the contributed module list short and security-covered, and put a reverse proxy in front of anonymous traffic. Authenticated-heavy sites get a caching strategy agreed before build, not diagnosed after launch.

What most Drupal agencies get wrong

Clicking configuration straight into production. No CI pipeline. Contributed modules with no security coverage. Hardcoded API keys in source. No caching strategy agreed before launch. We have taken over Drupal sites with every one of these, and untangling them always costs more than building the site properly from the first commit.

custom_module.module - hook_node_access()
<?phpuse Drupal\Core\Access\AccessResult;use Drupal\Core\Session\AccountInterface;use Drupal\node\NodeInterface;/** * Implements hook_node_access(). * * Editors may update a policy page only if it belongs to their department. */function custom_module_node_access(NodeInterface $node, $operation, AccountInterface $account) {  if ($operation !== 'update' || $node->bundle() !== 'policy') {    return AccessResult::neutral();  }  $user = \Drupal::entityTypeManager()->getStorage('user')->load($account->id());  $mine = array_column($user->get('field_department')->getValue(), 'target_id');  $owner = $node->get('field_department')->target_id;  // Cache metadata keeps Drupal's access cache correct per user and per page  return AccessResult::forbiddenIf(!in_array($owner, $mine))    ->cachePerUser()    ->addCacheableDependency($node)    ->addCacheableDependency($user);}
Who may edit a policy page is decided in one hook, so the rule holds on the edit form and through JSON:API alike. The access result carries per-user cache metadata, so Drupal's access and render caches stay correct without being switched off.

Quality Standards

How Miracuves ensures every Drupal delivery meets production standard

No Drupal site leaves Miracuves until it has passed the same quality gates - applied to custom modules, theme and configuration alike, as a delivery standard rather than a checklist someone ticks at the end.

  • Config management - CMI with YAML exports per environmentArchitecture
  • Custom module standards - proper hooks, plugins, and servicesCode
  • Caching strategy - Redis, Varnish, and CDN pre-configuredPerformance
  • Browser QA - every theme template checked in Chrome, Firefox, Safari and EdgeQA
  • Deployment pipeline - config import and database updates scripted on Acquia, Pantheon or your cloudDevOps
  • Security hardening - OWASP checks, role audits, HTTPS enforcedSecurity
  • Launch-ready - status report clean, security releases applied, backup restore testedDelivery

Enforced QA Gates

Our 6 Continuous Delivery Gateways

Every custom module, theme template and configuration export must clear all six gates below before the repository is handed over.

01

Code Review on Every Pull Request

A senior Miracuves Drupal engineer reviews every merge into your main branch - custom module code, Twig templates and configuration exports alike. Nothing untested reaches your production site, whatever the deadline.

02

Automated Test Coverage Required

PHPUnit unit tests for business logic, kernel tests for services and entity behaviour, and functional tests for the editorial flows that matter - create, review, publish. A minimum coverage level is enforced before any release is tagged.

03

Production Settings Profiled - Not Development Mode

With Twig debugging on and render caching switched off for development, Drupal's timings say nothing about production. Miracuves profiles the production configuration instead - page and dynamic page caches on, CSS and JavaScript aggregated, the real reverse proxy in front - keeps Webprofiler and Xdebug to local environments, and never accepts development-mode numbers as the result.

04

Handoff Package - Not Just a Repository

A Drupal handoff is a package, not a repository link: the Composer project with its custom modules and theme, configuration exports, a sanitized database dump, a setup guide for local and production environments, API documentation for any headless endpoints, every deployment credential, hosting and database access, and a runbook for the weeks after launch.

05

Go-Live - Cutover Planned and Rehearsed

Miracuves rehearses the launch before it happens: a content freeze agreed with your editors, configuration imported and database updates run on a copy of production, redirects from every old URL tested, DNS and TLS switched in an agreed window, and a rollback path written down.

06

Post-Launch Monitoring - 60-Day Active Support

Error logging to syslog or Sentry, uptime checks and cron monitoring are configured before launch. During the 60-day post-launch support window Miracuves watches errors and response times and flags every Drupal security advisory that touches your site - proactive, not reactive.

Discuss Ongoing Work

Why Miracuves publishes pricesPublishing prices lets you plan a Drupal build before the first call. If your content model, migration or integrations need a larger budget, Miracuves will show you exactly which part costs more and why - not simply charge more.

What affects Drupal project cost at Miracuves

Ready-made platform pricing stays fixed when your scope matches the catalogue product. Custom Drupal work scales with: the number of content types and editorial roles, the approval workflow, languages and sites, how much content has to be migrated from an old site (Drupal 7 especially), integrations such as SSO, CRM, search or a commerce platform, and whether a separate headless front end is part of the build.

Typical Drupal budget ranges

  • Ready-made platform (its own stack, not Drupal)from $2,1996 days
  • Custom Drupal workfrom $3,699, depending on the work
  • Custom Drupal build$10,000-$35,0002-8 weeks; larger scopes are quoted in writing before work starts
  • Ongoing retainerfrom $2,299/month for feature work and maintenance

Every quote is written before payment - no surprise invoices after kickoff.

Example engagement

What a typical Drupal project looks like at Miracuves

An illustrative example of a typical project of this kind, with client details anonymized. Figures show what this kind of build targets, not a named client's results.

A Dutch municipality serving 350,000+ residents needed to consolidate 7 separate WordPress sites into a single Drupal 10 platform with unified citizen services, WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility, and GDPR-compliant data handling.

  1. 01

    The Challenge

The 7 legacy sites had inconsistent branding, duplicated content, and 3 different CMS systems. None met WCAG 2.1 AA standards. GDPR data retention policies weren't enforced. Citizens needed different logins for different services.

  2. 02

    What Miracuves Delivered

Built a Drupal 10 multisite with shared content hub using Entity Reference and Group modules. Implemented OpenID Connect for DigiD citizen authentication. Created a custom GDPR module for automated data retention workflows via Drupal Queue API. Built 20+ custom Paragraph types for accessible content authoring.

  3. 03

    Outcome

Launched in 10 weeks. WCAG 2.1 AA compliance achieved across all 2,500+ pages. Content publishing time reduced from 3 days to 4 hours. Single sign-on adoption reached 73% of citizens within 3 months.

What clients say about building with Miracuves

Named clients, in their own words, on content and workflow platforms Miracuves built with them - a copyright registry with an examiner workflow, a learning catalogue and a streaming platform with its own CMS. None of the three was built on Drupal. Each card names what it was built on; read every testimonial on our client testimonials page.

"Copyright administration is mostly workflow: intake, examination, register, certificate. We had all of it on email and spreadsheets. Frequently Asked

Questions about Drupal development at Miracuves

Something not covered here? Ask on WhatsApp and you will usually have an answer within two hours.

Ask us directly
Can Miracuves take over or fix an existing Drupal site?

Yes. A takeover starts with a written audit: the Drupal core version and its support status, contributed modules without security coverage or a stable release, custom code that bypasses the entity API, configuration that lives only in the database, and caching switched off to hide a bug. You get the findings and a fixed-price plan before any change. From there we bring the site under Composer and configuration management, apply outstanding security releases and fix what the audit found - or plan the move to current Drupal if the site is still on Drupal 7.

How much does Drupal development cost at Miracuves?

If your scope matches a catalogue product, its price is fixed: the ready-made platform - web app, admin panel and mobile apps on its own stack, not Drupal - starts from $2,199 and ships in 6 days. Custom Drupal work starts from $3,699, depending on the work, and a full custom Drupal build typically costs $10,000-$35,000 over 2-8 weeks; larger scopes are quoted in writing before work starts. Where it lands depends on the number of content types and editorial roles, the approval workflow, languages and sites, how much content is migrated, integrations such as SSO, CRM, search or commerce, and any headless front end. A Drupal retainer for updates and feature work starts from $2,299/month. Every quote is written before payment, with no surprise invoices after kickoff.

Does Miracuves deliver the full source code?

Yes - completely. You receive the full Drupal codebase: the Composer project with every custom module and theme, the repository with its complete commit history, configuration exports for each environment, API documentation for any headless endpoints, and all deployment credentials. Drupal is self-hosted, so there is no lock-in: your own team or any other Drupal company can pick up the work the day after handoff.

How fast can a Drupal app realistically be delivered?

When one of our catalogue products fits, its web app, admin panel and mobile apps go live under your brand in 6 working days - on the platform's own stack, not Drupal. Drupal work is custom: a Drupal site, module set, migration or headless backend built for you takes 2-8 weeks depending on scope, and larger scopes are quoted in writing. Every timeline is stated in writing before any payment is requested.

Is Drupal overkill for a marketing site?

Usually, yes - and we will say so. If the site is a few dozen pages maintained by one or two people, WordPress will be cheaper to build and easier for the team to run. Drupal earns its complexity when you have many editors with genuinely different permissions, content that needs modelling rather than pages, multilingual governance, or a requirement to serve apps and pages from the same content. Miracuves builds both, so the recommendation follows your editorial reality rather than our preference.

What is included in the admin panel with every delivery?

Each catalogue platform ships with its own browser-based admin panel for users, orders and bookings, analytics, content, payouts and platform settings. On a Drupal build the admin is Drupal's own administration interface: content lists built with Views, editing forms shaped around your content types, the moderation states your approval process needs, and role-based menus so each editor sees only the tools they use.

Does Miracuves handle App Store and Google Play submission?

For the ready-made platform, yes: its mobile apps are submitted to the App Store and Google Play as part of the delivery, with signing, store listings, screenshots and review coordination handled by Miracuves; review times are set by Apple and Google. A Drupal site has no store submission. When a Drupal backend feeds mobile apps through JSON:API and Miracuves also builds those apps, we handle their submission too.

What happens after the app is delivered if there are bugs?

Each Miracuves delivery carries 60 days of post-launch technical support. Any bug inside the delivered scope - a broken view, a workflow that misfires, a template error - is fixed at no additional cost. New features beyond the agreed scope are quoted separately, and monthly retainers for Drupal updates and ongoing work are available at published rates.

How does Miracuves handle NDA and confidentiality?

Miracuves signs a bilateral NDA before you share any project details; it covers your technical details, business logic, content and IP. The IP assignment agreement, confirming that 100% ownership passes to you, is signed when the project starts - not at the end.

Can I hire dedicated Drupal developers from Miracuves?

Miracuves does not rent out individual developers by the hour. For continuing Drupal capacity - security releases, new content types, modules and core upgrades - a monthly retainer from $2,299 puts a dedicated Miracuves team on your site: you talk to them directly, see a working demo every week and can cancel with 2 weeks notice. A defined project, such as a Drupal 7 migration, is scoped and priced as a custom build before any code is written. First messages are answered in under 2 hours, Mon-Sat 10:00-19:00 IST.

Can Miracuves build a headless Drupal backend for a React or mobile front end?

Yes. The JSON:API module in Drupal core exposes each content type as an API with filtering, sorting, related-content includes and Drupal's own access checks, so a Next.js site, a React app or Flutter and React Native apps can read the same content - and write it too, once JSON:API's write operations are switched on for the roles that need them. Editors keep Drupal's admin and moderation workflow; the front end is deployed on its own. We add GraphQL through a contributed module only when the front-end team needs it, and API responses are cached with the same cache tags Drupal uses for pages.

How do I troubleshoot a Drupal and BigCommerce integration?

First find which system holds the wrong value. Compare the product, price or stock figure in BigCommerce with the copy Drupal stores and with what the page shows. If Drupal's copy is right but the page is stale, a webhook is not clearing Drupal's cache tags. If Drupal's copy is stale, check the webhook logs on both sides and whether your endpoint answers with a success status quickly. If values drift after bulk edits, a sync job is probably hitting API rate limits without retrying. Miracuves can audit an existing integration and fix it, or rebuild it with queued, logged syncs.
