In short

Miracuves is a CodeIgniter web application development company. We build CodeIgniter 4 admin panels, listings and directory modules, and REST APIs, migrate CodeIgniter 3 apps to version 4, and audit and harden older CodeIgniter code. Custom work takes 2-8 weeks; a ready-made platform launches under your brand in 6 working days. We deliver remotely from Mumbai, and you own 100% of the source code.

Our CodeIgniter Approach

How Miracuves delivers CodeIgniter apps - from 9,000+ projects of real experience

After deploying 9,000+ projects across PHP and modern stacks, Miracuves has a specific way of working with CodeIgniter. We start from 50+ production-grade PHP backend modules - already integrated with MySQL/PostgreSQL, REST APIs, admin dashboards, and authentication - not from a blank project.

CodeIgniter 4 keeps the framework small: routing, controllers, models with built-in validation, the Query Builder, Filters and a command-line tool called Spark, with little configuration in between. One CodeIgniter app can serve the admin panel your staff use, the server-rendered pages your visitors see and the JSON API your mobile apps call - one codebase, one deployment on ordinary PHP hosting, and the full source code yours on handoff.

Who this service is built for: Founders and product teams who want a PHP backend that is quick to build, cheap to host and easy for the next developer to read - admin panels, listings and directory sites, internal tools, and REST APIs for mobile apps - plus companies running a CodeIgniter 3 app that needs upgrading, securing or extending. Miracuves CodeIgniter development suits you when you want a lean backend at a published price, with full IP ownership and one company answerable for the delivery date - not a string of freelancers. If the product needs queues, broadcasting and a large package ecosystem out of the box, we will recommend Laravel instead; for complex domain logic on a long support calendar, Symfony.

  • Modular structure on every project: each feature is its own CodeIgniter 4 module (namespace, routes, controllers, models, views), the framework's replacement for CI3-era HMVC
  • MVC + Service Layer enforced: thin controllers, business rules in services that can be tested without a browser
  • Query Builder + Model layer: clean database access without heavy ORM overhead
  • CI/CD via GitHub Actions + Deployer configured on every project: automated tests, builds, and deployments from first commit
  • NGINX + PHP-FPM production stack: server hardening, SSL, caching, and monitoring included

Honest noteThe six cards above are ready-made platforms from our catalogue: each ships a web app, admin panel and mobile apps under your brand in 6 working days, and this page does not claim they run on CodeIgniter. CodeIgniter is what we use for custom PHP work - an admin panel, a listings module, an API or a CodeIgniter 3 upgrade. We tell you which route fits before any commitment.

Technology Comparison

CodeIgniter vs Laravel vs Symfony - which is right for your project?

All three are PHP frameworks that run on the same servers, so the real question is how much framework your product needs. Miracuves builds in all three and will tell you honestly which one fits - the choice decides your hosting bill, how fast the first version ships and who can maintain it later.

Complex domain logic · several teams on one codebase · Doctrine ORM · a published LTS calendar for a platform that will live for years. See Symfony development →

CodeIgniter guide

What to know before you hire a CodeIgniter development company

The questions buyers ask before hiring a CodeIgniter team, answered for CodeIgniter specifically - when it is the right PHP framework, what moving from version 3 to 4 involves, how listings modules, hosting and security work, and when consulting is enough.

When is CodeIgniter the right choice, and when is Laravel or Symfony better?

CodeIgniter is the right call when you want a small, fast PHP framework with little to learn: an admin panel, a listings or directory site, an internal tool, or a focused REST API for a mobile app. Its core loads little on each request, it needs almost no configuration, and a developer who knows plain PHP can find their way around a CodeIgniter codebase quickly. It also runs happily on modest servers.

It is the wrong call when the product needs a lot of framework from day one. Choose Laravel for queues, events, broadcasting, auth scaffolding and the largest package ecosystem in PHP. Choose Symfony for complex domain logic, several teams on one codebase and a published long-term support calendar. We build in all three, so the advice is not tied to what we sell.

Should you migrate a CodeIgniter 3 app to CodeIgniter 4 in 2026?

In most cases, yes - and sooner is cheaper. CodeIgniter 3 is the legacy line: it is officially in maintenance mode with mostly security fixes, and its last release came out in 2022. It throws deprecation notices on PHP 8.2 and later, and apps held back on PHP 8.1 or older are running on versions that stopped getting security fixes at the end of 2025. CodeIgniter 4 is actively released, and its current versions need PHP 8.2 or newer.

CodeIgniter 4 is a rewrite, not an upgrade: namespaces, a new folder layout with a public/ web root, new session, validation and email libraries, and no $this->load. The Query Builder carries over with few changes, so database code moves fastest. We migrate module by module behind tests, keeping the CodeIgniter 3 app live until each part is switched over.

How do you build a listings or directory module in CodeIgniter?

A listings module - properties, businesses, jobs, cars or services - maps cleanly onto CodeIgniter. It lives as its own CodeIgniter 4 module, so it can be added to an existing app without touching the rest. The Query Builder handles filters by city, category, price and status, the model's paginate() method returns one page of results while the pager builds the links, and the same model serves both the public pages and the JSON API behind a mobile app. A typical build covers:

  • Listing, category, location and media tables created through migrations
  • Search filters and sorting in the model, with indexes on the filtered columns
  • Image uploads validated for type and size, resized, and stored on disk or S3
  • Owner dashboards, a moderation queue and featured or paid listings
  • Readable URLs defined in routes, plus sitemap and schema output for search

Can a CodeIgniter app run on shared hosting, or does it need a cloud server?

CodeIgniter is one of the few PHP frameworks still comfortable on shared hosting: it needs a supported PHP version, a few common extensions (intl and mbstring among them) and a MySQL database, with no processes that must run all the time. That makes it a sensible choice for a directory site or a small business app where hosting has to stay cheap. The one rule is to point the domain at the public/ folder, so app code and the .env file are never reachable from the web.

Move to a VPS or cloud server (AWS, DigitalOcean, Google Cloud) once you need always-on queue workers, Redis, several app servers behind a load balancer or zero-downtime deploys. We set the app up so that move is a configuration change, not a rewrite.

How do you secure an older CodeIgniter application?

Older CodeIgniter apps, especially CodeIgniter 3 builds, tend to fail the same checks. We start with an audit and fix in order of risk:

  • Move PHP to a supported version, and CodeIgniter 3 apps onto CodeIgniter 4 where the budget allows
  • Replace raw, concatenated SQL with Query Builder calls or bound queries
  • Turn on CSRF protection and escape output in every view (esc() in CodeIgniter 4)
  • Move credentials and keys out of config files and the repository into .env
  • Switch off legacy auto-routing and define every route explicitly
  • Replace home-made login code with CodeIgniter Shield, and rate-limit login and API routes with the Throttler

What does CodeIgniter development consulting include?

Consulting is for teams that already have a CodeIgniter app, or a developer, and want a second opinion before spending money. It usually starts with a code audit: which CodeIgniter and PHP versions the app runs, whether it installs from its README, how much test coverage it has, how database access is written, how routes, Filters and sessions are configured, where secrets are kept, and which pages slow down under load.

You receive a written report with each finding ranked by risk, and a plan - fix and continue, migrate to CodeIgniter 4, or rebuild the parts that cannot be saved - with effort estimates. Consulting can also cover the architecture of a new build or regular review of your in-house developer's pull requests. The NDA is signed before we read the code, and nothing is priced until you have the findings.

Should you hire a CodeIgniter developer or a development company?

A freelance CodeIgniter developer is a good fit for a clear, contained task - a bug, a new report, one integration - when someone on your side can review the code. CodeIgniter's small footprint makes that kind of task easy to hand over. An agency makes sense when nobody in-house can own the result: you need the architecture decided, the code tested and deployed, documentation written, and a single company answerable for the launch date. With Miracuves that means weekly demos, a price agreed in writing before work starts, 60 days of support after launch and 100% of the code in your own repository.

Technical Architecture

How Miracuves engineers structure CodeIgniter projects for production

CodeIgniter leaves more decisions to the developer than Laravel or Symfony do. These are the ones our engineers make the same way on every CodeIgniter project - and they decide whether the app grows cleanly or turns into a codebase someone has to rewrite.

  • 01

Architecture - MVC + HMVC for Modular Scale

Strict separation: Controller -> Service Layer -> Model. Every feature is a CodeIgniter 4 module under its own namespace, owning its routes, controllers, services, models and views. CodeIgniter 4 replaced the CI3-era HMVC extensions with these namespaced modules, and they let Miracuves add a new module in 2 days without breaking existing functionality.

  • 02

Database - Query Builder with Service Layer

CodeIgniter's Query Builder escapes values and keeps database access predictable and testable, and schema changes go through migrations run with Spark. The problem we inherit most often on CodeIgniter projects is raw, hand-concatenated SQL spread across controllers, which is slow to change and open to SQL injection. We enforce a strict Service Layer pattern on day one as a hard standard - not a suggestion.

  • 03

Performance - OpCache, Redis, and Profile-Guided Tuning

PHP OpCache is configured on every deployment. Redis handles session caching, query result caching, and rate limiting. We profile every release with Blackfire.io - development mode is never used as a performance benchmark.

What most CodeIgniter agencies get wrong

Logic in controllers. No service layer. No validation rules on models or input Filters on routes. Database credentials hardcoded in app/Config/Database.php instead of .env. Schema changes made by hand instead of through migrations. Legacy auto-routing left switched on, so any public controller method can be reached by URL. Miracuves has taken over CodeIgniter apps with every one of these problems - getting the structure right on day one costs far less than untangling it later.

Listings.php - listings API endpoint
<?php// Listings API: filter, paginate, validate// Used in directory and marketplace backendsnamespace App\Controllers\Api;use App\Models\ListingModel;use CodeIgniter\RESTful\ResourceController;class Listings extends ResourceController{    protected $modelName = ListingModel::class;    protected $format    = 'json';    // GET /api/listings?city=pune&page=2    public function index()    {        $city = $this->request->getGet('city');        $rows = $this->model            ->where('status', 'published')            ->when($city, static fn ($q) => $q->where('city', $city))            ->orderBy('featured', 'DESC')            ->paginate(20);        return $this->respond([            'data'  => $rows,            'pager' => $this->model->pager->getDetails(),        ]);    }    // POST /api/listings: rules and $allowedFields live in ListingModel    public function create()    {        $data = $this->request->getJSON(true) ?? [];        if (! $this->model->insert($data)) {            return $this->failValidationErrors($this->model->errors());        }        return $this->respondCreated(['id' => $this->model->getInsertID()]);    }}
Filtering, pagination and validation stay in the model, so the controller stays short: the model's $allowedFields and validation rules decide what can be written, and a failed insert comes back as a 400 with field-level errors. The same shape powers the listings and directory modules Miracuves ships.

Enforced QA Gates

Our 6 Continuous Delivery Gateways

Every commit, database migration and deployment script on a CodeIgniter project has to clear all six gates below before the repository is handed over to you.

01

Code Review on Every Pull Request

A senior Miracuves PHP engineer reviews every pull request before it reaches your main branch - checking the Query Builder calls, validation rules and Filters as well as the logic. Code without tests does not reach your production server.

02

Automated Test Coverage Required

PHPUnit unit tests for services and models, feature tests with CodeIgniter's FeatureTestTrait for routes and API endpoints, and database tests with DatabaseTestTrait running migrations and seeds against a test database. Minimum coverage is enforced before any release is tagged.

03

Production Mode Profiled - Not Development Mode

Miracuves profiles every release with Blackfire.io with CI_ENVIRONMENT set to production - OPcache on, Debug Toolbar off. Numbers from development mode, where the toolbar collects data on every request, are never accepted as evidence.

04

Handoff Package - Not Just a Repository

Source code, documentation, the .env template with every setting explained, migration and seeder files, API documentation, deployment credentials and a post-launch runbook - all included in every project handoff.

05

Deployment Pipeline - CI/CD with Rollback

Miracuves configures NGINX, PHP-FPM, Redis, and MySQL on your production server. We set up GitHub Actions CI/CD, SSL certificates, monitoring, and automated backup pipelines.

06

Post-Launch Monitoring - 60-Day Active Support

Sentry error tracking, CodeIgniter's own log files and server monitoring are configured before launch. Through the 60-day post-launch support window Miracuves watches exceptions, slow queries and response times, and fixes problems before your users report them.

Our Process

From brief to deployed CodeIgniter app - what happens and when

Every CodeIgniter engagement runs through the same five steps, whether you start from a readymade clone or a custom spec. At each step you can see what Miracuves is working on, what we need from you and what you will receive. The timings below are for a ready-made platform sprint; custom CodeIgniter builds and CodeIgniter 3 upgrades are billed by milestone with the same checkpoints.

Why Miracuves publishes pricesKnowing the cost before you commit lets you decide which modules ship first. If your CodeIgniter project needs a bigger budget, Miracuves will show you which part of the scope drives it - rather than quietly raising the price.

What affects CodeIgniter project cost at Miracuves

The ready-made platform price stays fixed when your scope matches the base product. Custom CodeIgniter builds scale with: how many modules and user roles the app needs, the number of API endpoints and whether mobile apps call them, integrations with payment, SMS, maps or ERP systems, listing search and filters over large data sets, background jobs through the CodeIgniter Queue package, multi-language needs, and - for existing apps - whether a CodeIgniter 3 codebase has to be moved to version 4 first.

Typical CI budget ranges

  • Custom CodeIgniter backend workfrom $3,699depending on the work
  • Custom MVP$8,000-$25,0002-8 weeks depending on scope

CodeIgniter adds little overhead to each request, so most of the speed comes from what surrounds it: OPcache, Redis for sessions and cached data, indexed MySQL tables, CodeIgniter's page cache, and slow work such as emails and imports moved to queue workers. PHP shares nothing between requests, so capacity grows by adding app servers behind a load balancer with sessions in Redis. We load-test every production deployment against your expected traffic before launch and monitor it after.

How much does CodeIgniter development cost at Miracuves?

The ready-made platform price stays fixed when your scope matches the base product: a ready-made platform starts from $2,199 and ships in 6 working days. Custom CodeIgniter backend work starts from $3,699, depending on the work. A custom CodeIgniter MVP typically runs $8,000-$25,000 and takes 2-8 weeks depending on scope. Where it lands depends on how many modules and user roles the app needs, the number of API endpoints, integrations with payment, SMS, maps or ERP systems, listing search over large data sets, background jobs, multi-language needs, and for existing apps whether a CodeIgniter 3 codebase has to move to version 4 first. Ongoing CodeIgniter development is available from $2,299/month for feature work and maintenance. Every quote is written before payment, with no surprise invoices after kickoff.

Does Miracuves deliver the full source code?

Yes - completely. You receive the whole CodeIgniter repository with its full commit history, the .env template, migrations and seeders, API documentation and every deployment credential. Zero lock-in. Because CodeIgniter is small and widely known among PHP developers, your own team or another agency can pick the code up and carry on straight after handoff.

How fast can a CodeIgniter backend realistically be delivered?

A ready-made platform from our catalogue - web app, admin panel and mobile apps under your brand - ships in 6 working days. A custom CodeIgniter backend, admin panel or API takes 2-8 weeks depending on scope; a CodeIgniter 3 to 4 migration is scoped after a code audit, and larger legacy rewrites are quoted in writing before work starts. All timelines are stated in writing before any payment is requested.

CodeIgniter vs Laravel - which does Miracuves recommend?

It depends on the product, and we will tell you plainly. We recommend CodeIgniter when the app is an admin panel, a listings or directory site, an internal tool or a focused REST API; when hosting must stay cheap; or when you already run a CodeIgniter codebase. We recommend Laravel when the product needs queues, events, broadcasting, auth scaffolding and a big package ecosystem from day one, or will grow into a full SaaS. Both run on the same PHP servers and MySQL databases, so the choice is about how much framework you want, not about hosting.

What is included in the admin panel with every delivery?

For a ready-made platform: a browser-based admin panel covering users, orders and bookings, analytics, content, payouts and commissions, and platform settings, delivered as its own web application. On a custom CodeIgniter build, the admin panel is a module of the same app, with screens and roles designed around your data.

Does Miracuves handle Web servers and API endpoints submission?

Yes, as part of every delivery engagement. Miracuves sets up the web server (Nginx or Apache) with the document root pointed at CodeIgniter's public/ folder, configures PHP-FPM and OPcache, writes the production .env, runs database migrations with Spark, and wires up SSL, backups and monitoring. Staging deployment takes 1 day. Production rollout takes 1-2 days. For ready-made platforms that include mobile apps, we also handle app store submission.

What happens after the app is delivered if there are bugs?

You are covered by 60 days of post-launch technical support on every Miracuves delivery, and any bug within the delivered scope is fixed free of charge. New features outside that scope are quoted separately, and for longer care - PHP and CodeIgniter updates included - monthly maintenance retainers are available at published rates.

How does Miracuves handle NDA and confidentiality?

A bilateral NDA is signed before you share any project detail with Miracuves, covering your technical details, business logic and IP. The IP assignment agreement, which transfers 100% ownership of the code to you, is signed when the project starts - not when it ends. For a code audit of an existing CodeIgniter app, the NDA is in place before we read a single file.

Is CodeIgniter still maintained in 2026?

Yes. CodeIgniter 4 is actively developed, with regular releases through 2026, and its official packages - Shield for authentication, Tasks for scheduling, Queue for background jobs and Settings - are maintained alongside it. CodeIgniter 3 is different: it is the legacy line, in maintenance mode with no release since 2022, so new projects should start on CodeIgniter 4 and existing CodeIgniter 3 apps should plan a migration.

Can you add a listings module to our existing CodeIgniter site?

Yes. On CodeIgniter 4 we build the listings feature as its own module - migrations, model, controllers, views and API routes under one namespace - so it plugs into your app without rewriting what is there. On a CodeIgniter 3 site we can build it inside the current app, or build it on CodeIgniter 4 as the first step of a migration. Either way you get search filters, pagination, image uploads, owner dashboards and moderation, scoped and priced in writing before work starts.

Do you offer CodeIgniter development consulting without a full build?

Yes. You can hire Miracuves for a CodeIgniter code audit, an architecture review before a new build, or ongoing review of your own developers' work, without committing to a development project. An audit ends with a written, risk-ranked report and a plan with estimates; if you then want us to do the work, it is scoped and priced separately. First response is under 2 hours, Monday to Saturday, 10:00-19:00 IST.
