A Kwai clone is a vertical-video product with an accounting layer attached. Posts, reels, stories and live rooms run on a Laravel API over a single MySQL schema, and the wallets, commission columns and payout requests live in that same database. That is the whole reason a balance can be joined back to the event that produced it.
Discovery runs on an algorithmic discover feed with paginated loading, and the earning lines run alongside it: coin packages, gifts, real-money tips, subscription plans, pay-per-view unlocks, a creator fund pool, creator ads and rewarded ads that credit coins. Each one owns its table, and most of them own a commission column as well.
The API is stateless, so Laravel scales out horizontally behind a load balancer, and uploads sit on local disk, Amazon S3 or DigitalOcean Spaces as you configure. Two limits are worth knowing before you plan: this version runs no queue worker, so the fund calculation is a scheduled command and the cleanup tasks are cron endpoints; and multi-tenant hosting is out of scope, so each brand needs its own deployment. An adaptive bitrate ladder is flagged work rather than a shipped feature.
Moderation is a reporting flow with admin review behind it, plus optional automated screening through Sight Engine on keys you supply. Age gating is an optional setting with a minimum age and either Yoti or a manual check. Privacy policy and terms are editable records, and a user can delete their own account. What does not come in the box is a legal opinion: obligations under COPPA, the EU Digital Services Act or any local regime remain yours.
